How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

Published on

New double-pane windows provide a host of incentives for homeowners in Oklahoma City, one being improved energy efficiency. Whether you’re researching online or with an associate at a showroom, energy efficiency is a critical factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great choice if you’re wanting increased efficiency.

Most new double-pane windows are filled with argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is denser than air, which offers additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you see that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you’ve likely developed a greater leak and the gas has been switched with moisture. There are two things that you can do to check to see if this is the case:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to ensure that the condensation or fog you’re finding is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you realize that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can get ahold of the manufacturer to determine if you can make a warranty claim.
Depending on how old your windows are and the conditions causing the leak, it might make sense to start researching replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important features of your windows, and if that is compromised it can change your heating and cooling costs.
